Ms. Cruz - Guidance Counselor

"I come from a family of educators, now retired, and school has always been the foundation of my life.  From parent-teacher conferences, to school shows and all the moments in between, I grew up immersed in the world of education.  Twenty plus years in this field, along with earning my Master’s in School Counseling have brought me to this very moment, midway through my fifth year as a school counselor.  My journey began when I was nineteen, but my understanding of its power started long before that.  Watching caring adults shape the lives of students inspired me to be that person for someone, and that is exactly what I aim to offer my students everyday...”

H.E.R.O

“At  Health, Education and Research Occupations High School (H.E.R.O.), I wear many hats, counselor, coach, advocate, mentor, and collaborator, supporting students in multiple ways each day.  I am committed to empowering students' confidence, resilience and social emotional growth, while creating connections that extend beyond the classroom.  One of the greatest rewards of my work has been mentoring a former student who is now pursuing her own career as a school counselor, experiences that show the lasting impact guidance and support can have on future educators…”

“Being part of a student's journey, both in the classroom and on the field, reminds me that this work is not just my career, but a full circle experience, one where my contributions continue to shape my purpose and inspire me to grow alongside my colleagues and the students I serve.  As a mother to a  26 year old who is also an educator,  I am reminded daily of the power of modeling values, guidance, and support.  Just as I strive to inspire and empower my students, I see these lessons reflected in my own child’s growth and professional path.  Long before I chose education, education chose me and it is my privilege to carry that calling forward.”
